”Paint the light” a new creative lighting method with video projectors and PhotoShop connected to the lighting console, directly on stage or in studio.
Lighting with projectors connected to a drawing software is now a reality to be reckoned with. This opens up huge possibilities and can best be compared to the revolution; computer versus a typewriter. It takes seconds to add an animated fire on a drum set, fill the whole scene with a waterfall, or paint a three-point lighting directly from Photoshop on stage. You can use one layer as a follow spot with a Martin trackpod and then remove parts of the beam with a drawing software, or hide parts of the beam with a video loop or why not replace the entire impact to an animation. Or why not have a static light and then animate the shadows.
All this together with the rapid flexibility of a modern lighting console, the power of a media server and all the possibilities of video-editing software allows creativity with completely new ground rules. Örjan Fjällström
